How to Restore Windows 10 File Explorer in Windows 11
Due to its sleeker design, Windows 11 retained only some vital features from Windows 10's File Explorer. Still, you can always use the Windows 10 version on Windows 11.
Locate the Old File Explorer via the Control Panel
Accessing the previous File Explorer is as simple as going through the Control Panel.
1. Search "Control Panel" and open it.
2. Click the up arrow repeatedly or press Alt + Up Arrow.
3. You're now in the Windows 10 File Explorer where you can navigate through drives and folders.
While handy, it's not a permanent fix. It's not exactly easy to open the Control Panel every time either. But worry not, tools like ExplorerPatcher and StartAllBack can bring the Win 10 File Explorer back to Win 11.
Bring Back Win 10's File Explorer with ExplorerPatcher
ExplorerPatcher, a free tool, lets you alternate between Windows interfaces, including File Explorer.
CAUTION: Be careful third-party tools can cause issues on personal computers with major Windows updates.
1. Download the latest ExplorerPatcher version from its GitHub repository.
2. Open the setup file for auto-installation.
3. Search for "Properties" and open it.
4. Go to "File Explorer" on the left pane and select "Windows 10 Ribbon" from the dropdown menu.
5. Open File Explorer to see the familiar Win 10 Ribbon again.
Besides this, ExplorerPatcher also lets you modify visual elements like the Taskbar and Start Menu. It's easily updatable; you can uninstall it from the "Settings And Uninstall" section.
The StartAllBack Tool
CAUTION: Be careful third-party tools can cause issues on personal computers with major Windows updates.
Another great tool to bring the Win 10 File Explorer back is StartAllBack, which also offers various UI personalization.
Unlike ExplorerPatcher, it isn't free, but it offers a short-term trial.
1. Download and run the StartAllBack installer.
2. During setup, choose to install for all users or just the current user.
3. In the configuration window, go to "Explorer" and select "Win10 Ribbon UI" under "Choose Explorer Style".
4. Open a new File Explorer window to check out the Win 10 style interface.
StartAllBack also allows more File Explorer customizations. If you need to access it afterward, just right-click the Taskbar and select "Properties."
StartAllBack and ExplorerPatcher will help you feel right at home with the familiar Windows 10 File Explorer experience on Windows 11.
